On Sunday, 7/1/01, the CT/NY Audi Group will be having a Cruise around Candlewood Lake, ending at Squantz Pond where we will have a picnic. We will meet at 9:30AM at Danbury High School. Directions for the route will be handed out at that time. Promptly at 9:45AM we will depart on our route which will travel the outskirts of Candlewood Lake through Danbury, Brookfield, New Milford, Sherman, and finally New Fairfield. We will arrive at Squantz Pond at approx 11:30AM where we will meet up with members of http://www.germanperformancegroup.com . Their group is having a cruise from the Hartford area to meet up with us for lunch. We will have a "bring your own" picnic lunch at that point (BBQ Grills are available for those that would like to cook up something). Alcohol is not allowed in the park; not that I expect anyone to bring any to a driving event. The directions that will be handed out will include directions back to I-84, so people can leave the park at their leisure.
Without stops, it looks like the drive will be ~80 mins over 40 miles. Most of these roads are scenic curvy backroads. Some are more traveled. On 6/19, I drove the route and took time and distance markers at every turn. This will be a leisurely drive, with speed limits ranging from 25 to 45.
Candlewood Lake is the largest lake in the State of Connecticut, encompassing 5420 acres with over sixty miles of shoreline. The lake is about 11 miles long and 2 miles wide at its widest point.
What to Bring:
Enough Gas in your tank for 50+ miles
Food - bring whatever you're going to want to eat/drink. Grills will
be available, but bring charcoal, etc as you require
Motorola Talkabouts or compatible FRS Radios - We'll be using Ch
4-4 (4 for Quattro, 4 rings, etc)
